Inositol, formerly known as Vitamin B8 but is more commonly considered a pseudovitamin, is found primarily in fruits and whole grains, but it can also be synthesized by the human body from glucose. The name collectively refers to the molecules that have a similar structure, a group of nine stereoisomers. The stereoisomer in particular that it’s named after is called myo-inositol. It plays an essential role in the communication that occurs between cell-to-cell communications (e.g.; transmission of nerve impulses). It also assists in the health and maintenance of cell membranes tissues in the brain, liver, and muscles. Inositol is an indirect source of glucuronic acid, a sugar acid derived from glucose that plays a key role in the metabolism cycle. The use of Vitamin B8 has been used to support fertility health in women, blood sugar health, and may assist in reducing anxiety.†
